So we are a few weeks from moving from Harrow to Finchampstead, near Wokingham Berkshire.
Not sure what to expect, what life is going to be like or anything – but – I expect I will post up as I go along all the good (and possibly bad) things that I find once we have moved.
I am going to be a SAH mum for a while so I can settle the children in to the new home, schoold and nursery while hubs continues to commute to London each day.

I know the area a little. I live in Guildford and do children’s parties for a living so travel over to that area quite a bit.
Let me know if you have any questions about kids stuff I may be able to help.

Hi Elaine,
I’m afraid I don’t know the area at all bit I suspect moving away is pretty much the same for all of us. I remember feeling nervous and a bit daunted but mostly incredibly excited. I think you’ll find that generally people are very friendly, especially if you tell them you’re new. You’re lucky that your kids are nursery and school age because I don’t think there is an easier way to meet new friends than having a natter in the playground. Everyone’s common ground are the kids so you don’t even have to think of anything interesting to say!! I found getting involved a great way to get to know people, the PTA or nursery committee are always screaming out for help. Good luck with the move, I hope it goes smoothly and you get everyone settled quickly. x

Hello there! I have lived in Wokingham for ever and know Finchampstead well. What would you like to know?

Thanks all for the responses. The move has come and gone now and we are settling in. Lots of ehmo decor going on so only a handful of boxes unpacked.
DS has started school, DD starts nursery in Sept.
I do need to find some good local toddler groups (have been to the one at the FBC centre) but would like ones that you can just turn up to.
Nell – Thanks for the offer of info – will post up as things crop up.

Elaine, how are you getting on? I have changed my user name as forgot my details but I am still the same person!! If you go to the childrens centre in the FBC they will have lots of information for things to do. What age are your children?

We’re doing well thanks. Slowly unpacking….Still!!!
Took the little ones to The Lookout Discovery Centre yesterday – Will definitely need a few more visits there to see it all!
Still need to find a local GP – Have a couple in mind but want to have a sneaky look at the practices first, same goes for NHS Dentist too (need one that deals with Dental Phobia and can knock me out for treatment lol)
Have been to the FBC center many times now and the play park behind – kids love it. But i’d still like to find other good child places too. DS is 5 and DD is 3. As I am a SAHM this time round (well at least for another year) I want to find places that are free or low cost. DS goes into year 1 in Sept and DD will be in Nursery Termtime mornings only.
