Hi Katherine,
Sorry only just seen your reply – thanks for responding! We actually spent yesterday looking in the villages and really loved the area including Manuden. Didn’t make it up to Clavering but thinking of looking there on our next trip up.
Are you guys commuting up into town, and if so how do you find it? Have you already got kids and if so how old/what are you doing about schools etc??
We’re looking at Manuden primary, which looks amazing, but wasn’t sure if you can assume if you move to a village that you automatically get in?
we’ve got family near Maldon in Essex which is a good start and hoping they’ll be able to help with a spot of babysitting

Hello! My husband commutes to London from Audley End which he doesn’t seem to mind – not much longer than his commute was from SW London to the city and at least he now gets a seat and can work/read/sleep rather than stand next to someone’s armpit. The Bishop Stortford commute is obviously even quicker. Re: schools I’m not sure how it works if you already have school age kids (we are a year or so off the whole school thing) but I’m sure the school and/or local authority would be able to advise/give you an idea of availability in the different schools. All the village primarys have good reputations (Clavering, Manuden, Rickling, Furneaux Pelham, Henham & Ugley etc) – not sure about schools in BS itself although friends have got their little ones at Bishop Stortford College which they rate highly. Hope that helps a bit – hopefully the school can give you an idea of likelihood of a place!
